Located 10 km southwest of Ahmedabad, Sarkhej Roza is a small city known for its attractive architectural complexes. It houses a mausoleum and a mosque. In the early era, Sarkhej Rogza was a small village where mainly Hindu weavers and Indigo dyers population were living. It was also significant because a great Sufi saint Sheikh Ahmed Khattu was staying here. He was staying there under the patronage of Sultan Ahmed Shah and was playing role as an advisor. The Sufi saint Sheikh Ahmed lived in the village till the age of 111 years. As he died in the year 1445, Sultan ordered in his honor the construction of a mausoleum and a mosque.

Construction of this mausoleum and a mosque was accomplished in the year 1451 AD by his successor Qutub-ud-din Ahmed Shah. The splendor of the complex was further improved by Sultan Mahmud Begada in the later half of the 15th century. He built a tank in the center, pavilions and a small individual mosque. He even constructed a mausoleum for himself and his family just opposite to that of the Sufi saint. The Dargah (mausoleum of the saint), is the one of the biggest in Gujarat. It has a huge dome and a platform.

The fascinating structure of the mosque is highly praised by those tourists who admire architectural excellence. Mosque has multi domed prayer halls, arches and large courtyards and can be reached from the saint's tomb. In consequence, the mosque has become the most quiet and tranquil place in the complex. Conversely, the most impressive structure in Sarkhej Roza remains the tomb of the saint, owing to the massive size of the dome. The regal tombs stand mutely exhibiting their royal dignity.
