Located at the north of Ahmedabad, Rani Roopmati Mosque is a significant gravestone built by Sultan Mehmud Beghara. Built during the period of 1432 to 1440 AD, it was named as Rani Roopmati Mosque because she (Rani Roopmati) was his hindu wife, who was also the princess of Dhar before getting married to the Sultan Mehmud Beghara. Her tomb is also positioned near the mosque. The mosque showcases an excellent blend of Indo-Sarcenic style and is another example of astonishing skilled craftsmanship of Gujarat.
Supported by pillars, the mosque has three domes, which is elevated to give natural lighting in the mosque. These three domes are linked to each other by a flat roof. Apart from this, the other striking features of the mosque are a high central arch, slim minarets, carved galleries and an exquisite mehrab. It is prevalently well-known as Masjid-e-Nagina. Due to its beautiful configurations, it seems like an architectural jewel amongst the monuments in Ahmedabad. The domes are supported by a row of 12 pillars. The most uniquely designed dome is central dome which is elevated and positioned here to provide illumination, avoiding the glare of the sun. The mosque lost one of its minarets in the natural mishap in 1818 AD. There are a number of other historic places in the surrounding area, belonging to the 15th and 16th century.
