Constructed by Sultan Ahmed Shah in the year 1411 AD, the Bhadra fort is one of the most ancient forts of the city, which offers a glimpse into the history of the Ahmedabad and of India. The wonderful fort houses a number of splendid buildings, along with the sprawling Nagina Baugh. Bhadra fort covers an amazing area of 43 acres and its walls once encircled the entire city. The fort is a worth seeing gravestone in the state of Gujarat. The fort also houses a temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess, Bhadra Kali, which is the focal reason why it was named as Bhadra Fort.
Today it has been the venue of flag hoisting on Independence Day and Republic Day. The fort is an admired tourist spot in the city and stands tall with its entire imperial splendor. The main characteristics of the Bhadra Fort are its carved arches, delicately carved balconies and fine Jali work (mesh of the windows). The arches in the fort bear Islamic inscriptions. Its principal attraction is the Teen Darwaja or the Triple Gateway, a massive gateway positioned on the eastern side of the fort. It plays role as the entrance to the Royal Square, located in the fort premises
Bhadra Fort offers an overabundance of historical structures to be explored. Tourist can visit the plush rooms of the kings, the dungeons, the imperial court and other halls and rooms of the yore. Apart from these, a worth visiting place in the complex is the Sidi Sayed Mosque. Today, there are number of government offices such as the Archeological Survey of India, a post office and the statue of the first industrialist of the city are sited inside the fort.
